You may exit then. Caveats * For HP-UX 9.x systems, this installation process will replace your current HP LaserROM/UX version. * This installation process will overwrite the following files if they exist. On HP-UX 9.x: - /usr/lrom/.lromrc - /usr/bin/lrom - /usr/lrom/lromAltLP - /usr/lrom/prnlist.gen - /usr/lrom/lib/X11/app-defaults/C/LRom On HP-UX 10.0: - /opt/lrom/config/.lromrc - /opt/lrom/bin/lrom - /opt/lrom/lbin/lromAltLP - /opt/lrom/lbin/prnlist.gen - /opt/lrom/lib/X11/app-defaults/C/LRom ".lromrc" file contains the CD-ROM mount directory. "lrom" file contains the HP LaserROM/UX startup script. "lromAltLP" file is a newly added file containing the LaserROM/UX alternate print spooler script. "prnlist.gen" file contains the systems printer list. "LRom" file is in a new location containing the X11 resources used in HP LaserROM/UX. They should be renamed if you have made any changes to them. ============================================================================== The rest of the information in is this file is most appropriate for users who have not already installed HP LaserROM/UX B.02.00. It still applies to the B.02.01 release, but is not new information to users familiar with the B.02.00 release. ============================================================================== ------------------------ Graphical User Interface ------------------------ You must install the X11 software to take advantage of the HP LaserROM/UX graphical user interface. If X11 is not installed, you will get the character mode user interface. ------------------------------ Font Paths for 700/X Terminals ------------------------------ For 700/X terminals, also include the following font paths: /usr/lib/X11/700X/iso_8859.1/75dpi --------------------------- Using the LP-SPOOL File Set --------------------------- * HP LaserROM/UX B.02.00 uses the HP-UX 9.x fileset named LP-SPOOL for printing. If you only installed the HP-UX core, then use the HP-UX 9.x Operating System Installation CD or tape to install the LP-SPOOL fileset. * The HP LaserROM/UX uses the HP-UX lp spooler and the "lpstat -v" command to generate a list of system printers for LaserROM at startup. If your system uses a different spooler or your "lpstat -v" command generates a different output, you MUST update the file "prnlist.gen" in the directory /usr/lrom (for HP-UX 9.x systems) and /opt/lrom/lbin (for HP-UX 10.0 systems) in order to generate the correct list of the system printers. Please refer to the "prnlist.gen" file for instructions. * The file lromAltLP is a script file that can be edited to use an alternate lp in addition to the standard lp: For HP-UX 9.x: /usr/lrom/lromAltLP For HP-UX 10.0: /opt/lrom/lbin/lromAltLP ------------------ Supported Printers ------------------ * Any HP LaserJet PCL printer. * Any HP DeskJet PCL printer. * Any Postscript printer. ----------------------------------- Suggestions for Updating to B.02.00 ----------------------------------- * The default .lromrc (installed in the default directory) tells HP LaserROM/UX to look for a CD-ROM disk mounted on /cdrom, i.e. cdpath=/cdrom. Before using HP LaserROM/UX, make sure that the "cdpath=" entry in the default .lromrc matches the name(s) of the directories where you have mounted your CD-ROM disk(s). * New Thesaurus HP LaserROM published after February 1995 includes the improved thesaurus facility. To take advantage of the new improved thesaurus, you MUST specify in the default .lromrc file the path of an HP LaserROM CD-ROM with the new thesaurus before the paths of any HP LaserROM CD-ROM published prior to February 1995. * A .lromrc file in a user's HOME directory takes precedence over the default .lromrc file. So, if your system has multiple CD-ROM disks, but users only want access to some of those discs, users should copy the default .lromrc (installed in the default directory, i.e. /usr/lrom for HP-UX 9.x systems or /opt/lrom/config for HP-UX 10.0 systems) file to their HOME directory, then remove the "cdpath=" lines for the discs they DO NOT wish to access. * The following is the order of the precedence by which HP LaserROM/UX locates the .lromrc file. 1) The directory to which the environment variable LROMRC points 2) The current directory 3) The user's HOME directory 4) The default directory as placed by the installation process, i.e. /usr/lrom for HP-UX 9.x systems, /opt/lrom/config for HP-UX 10.0 systems) * On an HP 9000 Model S800, acting as a "mixed cluster" server (i.e., for S800's and S300's) install HP LaserROM/UX while logged into the S800 to create the necessary CDF files for BOTH HP 9000 Model S300 and S800. If you install from an S300 node of a mixed cluster, only S300's will be able to run HP LaserROM/UX. This can be "corrected" by running the installation again from an S800 server login. * The HP LaserROM/UX installation will copy an X11 defaults file called "LRom" to the directory /usr/lrom/lib/X11/app-defaults/C for HP-UX 9.x systems and to the directory /opt/lrom/lib/X11/app-defaults/C for HP-UX 10.0 systems. The "LRom" file contains X11 resources for the application. --------------------------------------------------------------- Printing the HP LaserROM/UX User's Guide and Installation Guide --------------------------------------------------------------- The HP LaserROM/UX installation includes binary PCL files that allow you to print the User's Guide and the Installation Guide on a supported printer. These files end with the suffix ".LJ" and are automatically placed in the following subdirectories during installation. To print these documents please type: lp -oraw *.LJ from the directory /usr/lrom/doc/C on HP-UX 9.x systems, or from the directory /opt/lrom/doc/C on HP-UX 10.0 systems. --------------------------- Setting Up User Environment --------------------------- To set up the user environment on HP-UX 10.0 systems, it is required to include the following paths in your startup file: * /opt/lrom/bin for the PATH environment variable * /opt/lrom/share/man for the MANPATH environment variable ----------------------- Invoking HP LaserROM/UX ----------------------- * Run "lrom" to invoke the HP LaserROM/UX in graphical mode or "lrom -display hpxyzzy:0.0" to specify that HP LaserROM/UX is to use display 0.0 on the host hpxyzzy. * Run "lrom -c" to invoke the HP LaserROM/UX in character mode. ------------------------ List of Critical Manuals ------------------------ HP-UX 9.x: - Installing Peripherals - System Administration Tasks HP-UX 10.0: - Configuring HP-UX for Peripherals - System Administration Tasks
