She sits alone behind her window,
looking out into the world.
a tear runs down her cheek.
Her hair is full, her face beautiful,
her talents burn brighter than the neon lights
She is brighter than the world.
but still, she sits alone
she cries and for a moment I stop
I watch her pain.
for a moment I feel comfort
for a moment
I see her soul.
watching the world from the corner of her own
my face comes into view.
she sees, she runs, she's out of sight.
dying for someone to witness her suffering,
she still won't let me in.
standing in the black glow in the threshold of her world
I raise my quivering hand to the door,
but no one answers
comprehension of her reason is beyond me.
Why does she run? Why does she hide?
Why will she not let me come in?
I have no choice but to walk away,
to leave her to drown in her misery
but I know that down the road
I'll wonder what would have been
if she hadn't shut me out,
if she had let me prove
that we live in shadows
of equal darkness
